RACE

Banksy is not particularly known for taking on issues of race; however, he recently painted this image in response to the immigration crisis. While this certainly is a relevant topic in the U.S., this image was created specifically to address unrest in the U.K. related to an influx of African immigrants. Once again, Banksy uses logos to petition the viewer’s sense of justice by representing immigration protestors as sign toting pigeons who don’t want hummingbirds in their neighborhood.  His satirical aesthetic emphasizes the ludicrous nature of the situation.

Many people forget that the father of the All-American image, Norman Rockwell, also used his artwork to speak to issues of race and social unrest during the civil rights movement.
